Deep-groove ball bearings are particularly versatile. In addition to allowing the absorption of radial loads, they simultaneously enable the absorption of axial loads in both directions. They are of simple construction, durable in operation and maintenance and suitable for high to very high rotational speeds.
Axial deep-groove ball bearings are suitable for supporting
Axial deep-groove ball bearings are suitable for supporting axial loads but must not be subjected to radial loads. Axial deep-groove ball bearings are not self-retaining and consist of the shaft washer, housing washer and ball set retained by a cage. Depending on the application, they are manufactured as single or double-direction bearings. Single-direction axial deep-groove ball bearings are suitable for absorbing axial forces in one direction and can thus support the shaft to one side. Double-direction axial deep-groove ball bearings, by contrast, can absorb axial forces in both directions and thus, as locating bearings, they support the guidance of the shaft to both sides.
Single-row angular contact ball bearings are non-separable bearings with solid inner and outer and rings whose raceways are offset against each other in the direction of the bearing shaft. This allows angular contact ball bearings to be subjected to radial and axial loads. They only absorb axial forces in one direction and thus need to be adjusted against a second bearing. Single-row angular contact ball bearings are designed for high rotational speeds; however, their angular adjustability is very low. Considerably higher running noise occurs due to skewing and the service life is reduced by an additional load. Single-row STC-Steyr® angular contact ball bearings are produced in two variants – DIN 628-1 – the standard and universal versions. The contact angle is available as 25°, 30° and 40°. The greater the contact angle, the higher the axial load-carrying capacity of the angular contact ball bearings. The standard version of angular contact ball bearings is intended for bearing arrangements where only one bearing is used for each bearing point. Single-row angular contact ball bearings in the universal design are intended for fitting in pairs in X, O or tandem arrangement. They are matched in production in such a way that bearings of the same size and design can be directly installed in the aforementioned arrangements.
Spindle bearings are single-row angular contact ball bearings comprising solid inner and outer rings and ball and cage assemblies with solid window-type cages, which are not separable and produced in open and sealed versions.
Spindle bearings have restricted tolerances and are particularly appropriate for bearing arrangements with the most stringent requirements for guidance accuracy and speed suitability. They have proved to be highly appropriate for the bearing arrangements of spindles in machine tools.
Self-aligning ball bearings are double-row, self-retaining units comprising outer rings with concave raceway, inner rings with cylindrical or tapered bore and ball and cage assemblies. They thus allow angular adjustment and are not susceptible to skewing of the shaft relative to the housing. They are therefore particularly suitable for bearing applications in which larger shaft deflections or alignment errors are to be expected. These bearings are available in open and sealed versions.
Four-point contact bearings are single- row radial angular contact
Four-point contact bearings are single-row radial angular contact ball bearings, whose raceways are formed in such a way that axial loads can be accommodated in both directions. Radial loads of only a fraction of the axial load can be absorbed. In the axial direction, four-point contact bearings require significantly less space than double-row bearings.
Spherical roller bearings have a spherical outer ring raceway and are therefore self-aligning.
Spherical roller bearings have a spherical outer ring raceway and are therefore self-aligning. They can absorb high radial forces and high axial forces. As standard, there is an annular groove with three lubrication holes in the outer ring.

For highly alternating loads, such as those in vibrating screens and tunnel-boring machines, STC Steyr® supplies spherical roller bearings with a split cage. These are produced for rolling mills, cable sheaves, marine gear units, rudder bearings, crushing machines, hammer mills, screw conveyors, roller conveyors and vibrating screens.

The structure of axial spherical roller bearings is similar to that of radial spherical roller bearings; however, only one row of rolling elements is used. The spherical form of the raceways allows both high axial loads to be absorbed and alignment errors to be corrected.

STC-Steyr® manufactures single-row cylindrical roller bearings in different designs, namely as pure radial bearings (types NU and N) and bearings for combined loads (types NJ and NUP). The main fields of application include gear units, centrifuges, eccentric presses, wheel-set roller bearings and vibrating units. Double or multiple-row cylindrical roller bearings are also standard production items for STC-Steyr®. These are produced for machine tools, bearings with high stiffness requirements and running accuracy, rolling mills and printing machines.
Full-complement cylindrical roller bearings have solid inner and outer rings and cylindrical rollers.
Full-complement cylindrical roller bearings have solid inner and outer rings and cylindrical rollers. Due to the high number of rolling elements, these bearings are suitable for supporting very high radial loads. However, they cannot be operated with the same high rotational speeds as roller bearings with a cage.
Axial cylindrical roller bearings allow bearing arrangements with very high axial load capacity
Axial cylindrical roller bearings allow bearing arrangements with very high axial load capacity that are impact-resistant and rigid while requiring relatively little axial space. They are single-direction and therefore suitable for accommodating axial loads in one direction only. Axial cylindrical roller bearings are used where the load capacity of deep-groove ball bearings is no longer sufficient.
Single-row tapered roller bearings are separable radial bearings. The inner ring with roller and cage assembly and the outer ring can be installed separately. Due to the fact that tapered roller bearings absorb axial forces in one direction only, a second tapered roller bearing in a mirror-image arrangement is required for counter guidance. In its standard range, STC-Steyr® offers matched tapered roller bearing sets with the designation DF.

The needle bearing is an extremely low-profile rolling bearing very high load-carrying capacity; however, it may only be loaded radially. Needle bearings are often used without an inner and outer ring. Depending on the application, they can be used with or without an inner ring. Needle bearings without an inner ring are suitable for hardened and ground shafts. Since the inner ring is omitted, the shaft can be made stronger and hence more rigid. Needle bearings without an inner ring also have a smaller axial clearance, because the displacement of the shaft relative to the housing is only dependent on the width of the raceway. For bearings without an inner ring, the dimension of the enveloping circle determines the radial internal clearance. The enveloping circle is the inner limitation circle of the needle rollers in clearance-free contact with the outer raceway. Needle bearings with an inner ring are used for bearing arrangements where the hardening and grinding of the shaft is not possible or not economically justifiable. In combination as a needle-axial ball bearing, it is also suitable for axial loads. Due to its overall size, the latter is particularly suitable for applications with limited installation space.
Barrel roller bearings are particularly suitable for designs that require high radial load-carrying capacity and compensation for alignment errors. They are especially appropriate for applications with high radial shock-type loads. The bearings cannot be dismantled and, with normal loads and a circumferential inner ring, can only be displaced from the centre position by a maximum of 4°.
Crossed roller bearings are particularly efficient cylindrical roller bearings
Crossed roller bearings are particularly efficient cylindrical roller bearings for moment loads and forces in all directions, including from the axial and radial directions. This is achieved by the crosswise arrangement of the cylindrical rollers, which roll in raceways brought together at right angles.

Slewing rings are complete, ready-to-install bearings with integrated wire-race bearings. They are designed as a four-point bearing, take the same high loads in all directions and are proven to be resistant to impacts and vibrations. The slewing rings are sealed on both sides and set as clearance-free with preload.
Trak rollers, yoke-type and stud-type track rollers are suitable
Trak rollers, yoke-type and stud-type track rollers are suitable for direct use in all types of cam mechanisms, guide tracks, conveying equipment, etc. These bearings have a thick-walled outer ring that allows them to withstand high shock loads and reduce tensions and bending stresses.
The outer ring has a crowned running surface as standard. This is especially advantageous where the possibility of axial misalignment to the track exists, or edge stresses have to be minimised. Except for single-row units, track rollers, yoke-type and stud-type track rollers are also available with a cylindrical (flat) bearing surface on the outer ring.
Spherical plain bearings are not rolling bearings but plain bearings.
Spherical plain bearings are not rolling bearings but plain bearings. These bearings have an inner ring with concave, outwardly curved outer diameter and concave, fittingly inward-curved outer ring. Spherical plain bearings are suitable for arrangements in which compensatory movements between shaft and housing have to be corrected, or where vibrational, rotational and tilting movements occur at relatively low rotational speeds and edge loading has to be avoided.

However, if the bearing elements in rolling bearings are separated by rolling parts – the rolling elements – then the moveable element in plain bearings – normally a shaft, stud or strip – slides on the sliding surface of a static bearing bush, bearing cup or sliding strip. The sliding motion thus occurs directly between the sliding layer of the bearing body and the supported component. Lubrication is provided by embedded lubricants or a solid layer is applied to a supporting body. In case of radial movement, the bearing clearance between the shaft and the sliding layer ensures the mobility of the sliding partners.
Plain bearings are available as radial bearings, axial bearings, strips, half-shells and many other designs. They run quietly and are particularly suitable when high loads with relatively slow rotational and tilting movements have to be absorbed, as well as under high and low-temperature conditions. Due to their wide variety of specific characteristics, they are therefore used in almost all areas of industry, especially when only a very limited installation space is available.

Withdrawal sleeves allow the mounting of roller bearings with a tapered bore on stepped shafts with cylindrical seating, as well as the adjustment of the clearance. Bearings on withdrawal sleeves must be installed against a fixed installation. After being pressed into the bearing bore, the withdrawal sleeve must be secured on the shaft with a shaft nut or end plate.
Clamping sleeves are elements for fastening bearings with a tapered bore onto a cylindrical seating.
